Our Draped Bust type of early silver dollars listed for sale here are either the Small Eagle Reverse type (produced from 1795 to 1798) or the Heraldic Eagle Reverse type (minted from 1798 to 1804). The most famous of all silver dollar coins is considered part of the Draped Bust series, but 1804 Dollars were struck as presentation pieces by the U.S. Mint many years after that date. More accurately a restrike, only 15 specimens of 1804 dated coins are known to exist. Comparatively rarer yet equally significant is the finest known 1803 Gem+ Proof graded silver dollar. This “Top-100” Draped Bust specimen is so elegant that a booklet on the coin has been produced and is available for the seriously discriminating collector.
